Atlantic Coast, New Jersey to North Carolina

S17-41-046
Flight 41G; 40.4N, 72.2W, 17:22:11 GMT, 8 Oct 1984

During Flight 41G, observations of the ocean from New Jersey to North Carolina near the inner wall of the Gulf Stream gave further credence to the belief that spiral eddies are created along strong shears, in this case, the Gulf Stream. A continuous series of spiral eddies was observed along the inner edge of the current from off New Jersey to Cape Hatteras.
