Flight 41G; 31.5N, 31.5E, 6 Oct 1984
The Nile Delta, Cairo, the Pyramids, the upper Suez Canal, and the entire eastern Mediterranean Sea lay behind the Challenger during a descending orbit. Dust from an easterly wind lay over the waters between Turkey and the island of Cyprus. The shores of the Nile Delta continue to be of interest to marine geologists because of increased erosion of the coast since the building of the Aswan Dam in 1964.
