Solitons, Alboran Sea

S17-34-81 (100 mm)
Flight 41G; 36N, 5W, 12:21:48 GMT, 10 Oct 1984

From another vantage point, as the Challenger orbited over the eastern part of the Alboran Sea, solitons that had formed over a three-day period were observed as they spread far to the east from the Strait of Gibraltar. The point of initiation over the shallow sill of the strait stood out clearly in the waters north of Tangiers. On this day, the winds were gently blowing from the west.
