Amid the oil slicks and linear ship wakes in the central Persian Gulf, well north of Qatar, a concentration of surface material along a curved boundary drew attention to a suloy-like shear. The experiences of U.S. Navy ships in the gulf since the time of that observation indicate such linear wave lines to be a common occurrence in those waters.
